Cracked Glass? Fix It Before It Spreads

Fix It Now – Book Service

Over time, windows can lose their charm and efficiency due to wear and tear. Reglazing could be the perfect solution if your windows are drafty, foggy, or looking worse for wear. This process restores your windows’ beauty and functionality, giving them a fresh, like-new appearance while improving insulation. But what exactly does reglazing involve, and how much should you expect to pay? Here’s everything Kansas City homeowners need to know about the cost of reglazing windows and whether it’s the right option for your home.

What Does It Mean to Reglaze a Window?

Reglazing is repairing and restoring a window by replacing the old, damaged glazing putty that holds the glass in place. It often includes minor frame repairs, glass replacement if needed, and a final sealing to ensure a secure fit. This meticulous process extends the life of your windows and improves their energy efficiency, making your home more comfortable year-round.

How Do I Know If My Windows Need Reglazing?

Do your windows need reglazing? Look for these common signs:

  • Cracked or missing putty around the edges of the glass
  • Drafts coming through the window
  • Fogging or condensation inside the panes
  • Loose or rattling glass when you touch the window
  • Paint peeling or deteriorating around the frame

If you notice any of these issues, having professional glazing services assess your windows is a good idea. Reglazing can prevent further damage and save money on more extensive repairs or replacements.

What Are the Benefits of Reglazing Windows?

Reglazing offers numerous benefits beyond just aesthetics. Here’s why it’s a wise investment:

  • Restores the beauty of your windows, making them look brand new
  • Improves energy efficiency by sealing gaps and preventing drafts
  • Extends the life of your windows, delaying the need for replacements
  • Preserves historical or original windows, maintaining your home’s character
  • Enhances home value by improving curb appeal and functionality

For Kansas City homeowners, reglazing is a cost-effective way to keep their windows in top shape without the expense of a full replacement.

How Long Does Window Reglazing Last?

When done correctly, reglazing can last 10 to 20 years, depending on the quality of the materials and how well the windows are maintained. Kansas City’s fluctuating weather conditions—hot summers and icy winters—can impact longevity, so regular upkeep, like repainting the putty and keeping moisture away, will help extend its lifespan.

How Much Does It Cost to Reglaze a Single-Pane Window?

The average cost to reglaze windows varies, but homeowners can expect to pay between $100 and $250 for a single-pane window. This price includes labor, new glazing putty, and sealing to ensure a secure, weatherproof fit. If the glass itself needs replacing, the price may be slightly higher.

How Much Does It Cost to Reglaze a Double-Pane Window?

Reglazing double-pane windows is more complex since they are sealed units. If the seal is compromised, reglazing alone won’t fix the issue—you may need to replace the glass. The cost to replace and reseal a double-pane window can range from $200 to $500 per window, depending on the size and type of glass required.

What Factors Affect the Cost of Reglazing Windows?

Several key factors influence reglazing costs, including:

  • Window size: Larger windows require more materials and labor.
  • The extent of damage: Additional repairs may be needed if frames or glass are severely damaged.
  • Type of window frame: Wooden frames often require more detailed work than aluminum or vinyl.
  • Labor costs: Prices may vary depending on the contractor’s experience and location.
  • Additional repairs: If structural repairs are needed, costs will increase.

Can Old Wooden Windows Be Reglazed?

Yes, they can—and in many cases, they should. Reglazing is an excellent way to restore original wooden windows’ integrity and energy efficiency without replacing them. Many older homes in Kansas City feature well-crafted wooden windows built to stand the test of time. Reglazing helps preserve its historic charm while improving insulation and performance. With the right materials and expert quality, reglazed windows can perform reliably for decades.

What to Expect When Reglazing Your Windows

Reglazing isn’t just a cosmetic fix—it’s a restoration process that brings lasting value to your windows. Here’s how it works, step by step:

Inspection

A trained professional will inspect your windows for damage, deterioration, and overall condition to confirm if reglazing is the best option.

Glass & Putty Removal

The technician carefully removes the old glass and any cracked or dried-out glazing putty to prepare the frame for new materials, if necessary.

Frame Repair & Prep

Technicians repair minor frame damage, sand rough edges, and ensure the surface is solid and ready to hold new glass securely.

New Glass Installation

Custom-cut panes are fitted into place with precision, ensuring a tight, clean fit inside the restored frame.

Sealing & Finishing

Fresh glazing compound is applied to seal the glass, followed by drying, cleanup, and optional painting for a smooth, finished look.

The result? A restored window that performs like new—without the cost or hassle of complete replacement.

Excellent experience! Called late on Friday of a holiday weekend and got the last appt of the day. Had an unusual glass repair. The manager did an excellent job explaining the repair process along the way. They got it done and had me on my way promptly.

I just wanted this company to know that your clever advertising at a T-Bones game 20 years ago is the only reason I even thought of you when I got a chip in my windshield. It forever was etched in my brain so whoever thought of that, hopefully you’re a millionaire now. Genius. Also, you did great work on my chip!

Wow, what a great experience! Having driven in the mountains of Colorado, to Minnesota and to Florida multiple times, wouldn’t you know I get hit with what seemed liked a pretty big rock 10 miles from my home in Kansas while driving south on I-435 S. on June 9th. After checking several sites I decided on Kryger. I got in on the morning of June 10th and much to my surprise, everything was done by the time I finished a leisurely breakfast and even more surprisingly the cost was $60 less than the original estimate. Also it was $200 less than the major nationwide competitor. I hope you don’t need a new windshield, but if you do check out Kryger.

Online quote portal is a waste of time. Despite completing the intake form completely (confirmed by next day call back from your office), the estimate for a windshield replacement for an 11-year old Mazda CX-5 went from $865 to $1,150. If your online portal is going to miss the mark by 35%, you might want to reconsider its value within your current business model. I'd be a bit more concerned with your long-term business objectives vs. short-term margins, as one would have to imagine you'll be insolvent within the next 5-years without additional market share. Cheers to overpriced products and services!
