Cracked Glass? Fix It Before It Spreads

Fix It Now – Book Service

Living in Overland Park? Here’s What You Need to Know.

You’ve already had one windshield chip repaired—and now, there’s another. Maybe it’s close to the first one. Maybe it showed up in a completely different spot. Either way, you’re probably wondering the same thing:

Can a windshield chip be repaired twice?

It’s a fair question—and an important one. After all, your windshield is more than just a sheet of glass. It’s a key part of your vehicle’s safety system, and knowing when a repair is still safe (or when it’s time to consider replacement) can save you time, money, and stress down the road.

If you’re unsure what to do next, this guide will walk you through what matters—from safety limits to repair costs to what your insurance might cover.

Yes—Sometimes You Can Repair a Windshield Chip Twice.

The short answer? It depends.

A second windshield chip repair might be possible, but only if the damage meets certain conditions. Factors like chip size, location, proximity to the first repair, and the condition of the glass all come into play.

At Kryger Glass, we’ve seen—and successfully handled—thousands of chip repairs. But when it comes to round two, safety always leads the way.

When Is It Safe to Repair a Windshield More Than Once?

Here are the green flags that usually make a second repair possible:

  • ✅ The new chip is at least 4 inches away from the first repair
  • ✅ Neither chip affects your line of sight
  • ✅ Combined damage is under 6 inches
  • ✅ The original repair is intact and hasn’t spread
  • ✅ The rest of the glass is in good condition (no spider cracks or edge damage)

Still unsure? Our Overland Park windshield replacement and repair services include free in-person inspections—so you can get answers before making a decision.

When It’s Time to Stop Repairing

Unfortunately, not every chip is repairable—especially after the first fix. Here are signs it’s time for a full replacement instead:

  • ❌ The original repair has spread or cracked
  • ❌ Chips are overlapping or too close together
  • ❌ Damage is near the edges (weakest point of the glass)
  • ❌ Repairs land directly in your field of vision
  • ❌ There are multiple chips in one small area

Our priority is always your safety—not just what’s quick or easy. If a replacement makes more sense, we’ll walk you through your options clearly and honestly.

How Much Does It Cost to Repair a Windshield Chip Twice?

In Overland Park, a typical chip repair costs around $75–$125. A second chip, if repairable, usually falls in that same range—depending on complexity and how close it is to the first.

But here’s the thing: If there’s any uncertainty about the glass’s strength, a replacement might actually be the more cost-effective (and safer) choice—especially if insurance covers it.

Does Insurance Cover Multiple Windshield Repairs?

It often does—but with some fine print.

Most comprehensive insurance plans cover at least one chip repair per policy year, often with no deductible. Some providers cover multiple repairs, while others limit it to just one before requiring a full replacement.

At Kryger, we work with all major carriers and can help you navigate the details, submit paperwork, and find out exactly what’s covered.

🛠 Pro tip: Ask your provider if multiple repairs are included under your current policy’s comprehensive coverage.

Why Trust Kryger in Overland Park?

Whether it’s your first chip or your second in the same area, the Kryger team in Overland Park is ready to help:

  • ✅ Free windshield chip inspections
  • ✅ Same-day mobile service available
  • ✅ No-pressure, honest assessments
  • ✅ Full replacement options if needed
  • ✅ Insurance paperwork? We’ve got it covered

From minor chips to major replacements, we’ll help you choose the best option—and keep you safely on the road.

Final Thoughts: Don’t Wait Too Long

Let’s put it this way: you’ll wish you hadn’t waited.

A small chip might seem harmless now, but one hard pothole, temperature swing, or door slam could turn it into a full-length crack. And if you’ve already had one repair done, your windshield is more vulnerable than you think.

Let’s catch it early.

Book your windshield replacement and repair services appointment today and get expert eyes on your glass—before that second chip becomes a second regret.

Excellent experience! Called late on Friday of a holiday weekend and got the last appt of the day. Had an unusual glass repair. The manager did an excellent job explaining the repair process along the way. They got it done and had me on my way promptly.

I just wanted this company to know that your clever advertising at a T-Bones game 20 years ago is the only reason I even thought of you when I got a chip in my windshield. It forever was etched in my brain so whoever thought of that, hopefully you’re a millionaire now. Genius. Also, you did great work on my chip!

Very easy to work with. Lowest price by far to replace my windshield since I was paying on my own. 45 mins in and out. No problems since. Wiped down and cleaned the car. Nice waiting room. Highly recommend.

Wow, what a great experience! Having driven in the mountains of Colorado, to Minnesota and to Florida multiple times, wouldn’t you know I get hit with what seemed liked a pretty big rock 10 miles from my home in Kansas while driving south on I-435 S. on June 9th. After checking several sites I decided on Kryger. I got in on the morning of June 10th and much to my surprise, everything was done by the time I finished a leisurely breakfast and even more surprisingly the cost was $60 less than the original estimate. Also it was $200 less than the major nationwide competitor. I hope you don’t need a new windshield, but if you do check out Kryger.

Online quote portal is a waste of time. Despite completing the intake form completely (confirmed by next day call back from your office), the estimate for a windshield replacement for an 11-year old Mazda CX-5 went from $865 to $1,150. If your online portal is going to miss the mark by 35%, you might want to reconsider its value within your current business model. I'd be a bit more concerned with your long-term business objectives vs. short-term margins, as one would have to imagine you'll be insolvent within the next 5-years without additional market share. Cheers to overpriced products and services!
